When Do We Let Go of Hope?

Sometimes, hope keeps us closer to the past and further away from reality.

We hope to bring back those beautiful moments.
We replay the memories.
We remember how things once felt and wonder if maybe, somehow, they could feel that way again.

But the truth is, those moments are gone, and even if they came back, they wouldn’t be the same.  Sometimes, memory can cloud our vision. It can take a gray moment from the past and make it look brighter than it really was.

And that makes me wonder:

When is the right time to let go of hope?

When the picture isn’t clear, does holding on to hope remove the confusion, or does it keep us standing in the same place, waiting for an answer that may never come?

I believe hope should make us stronger.

Hope should make the future feel brighter.

Hope should bring us closer to understanding what we truly want.

Hope should give us direction, not keep us stuck in uncertainty.

Sometimes, we have to remove the blindfold and be willing to see things for what they really are.

Not what we wish they were.
Not what they used to be.
Not what we hope they will become.

Sometimes, certain things are better left behind.

And perhaps letting go isn’t about giving up.

Perhaps it’s about finding the strength within ourselves to move forward.

To remember who we are.

To stop allowing unanswered questions, old memories, or a few unexpected words to distract us from the life we are building.

Maybe the real question isn’t, “Should I still hope?”

Maybe it’s:

“What am I hoping for, and is that hope leading me toward the life I deserve?”

Because hope is beautiful when it gives us something to look forward to.

But hope should never require us to abandon ourselves while we wait.

I still believe in hope.

I believe that when we desire something deeply and work toward it with intention, life can surprise us in ways we never imagined.

But sometimes the dream doesn’t come back in the form we expected.

Sometimes, the door we want to reopen stays closed because another door is waiting for us.

And maybe that’s the kind of hope I want to hold on to now:

the hope that my best days are still ahead of me.

The hope that I can create new memories.

The hope that I can love again, laugh again, dance again, travel again, and build a life that feels completely mine.

And most importantly…

The hope that letting go of what was will make room for what is meant to be.
