For many, the holiday season is a time to show their loved one’s appreciation by bringing them a gift. Do we have to give only on special occasion?
I like to pay attention to the little details and try to make a difference. I enjoy giving what really matters, and they don’t usually cost much.
The joy and beauty of giving reside in the simple things and here are a few of my quotes.
Give the ones you love wings to fly, roots to come back, and reasons to stay. The Dali Lama
The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away. Pablo Picasso
To get the full value of joy, you must have someone to divide it with. Mark Twain
The wise man does not lay up his treasures. The more he gives to others, the more he has for his own. Lao Tzu
The best things to do with the best things in life is to give them away. Dorothy Day.
We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give. Winston S. Churchill
As we are ready to spend a fortune in buying gifts, remember this quote of Mother Theresa: “It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving”.
Give your time
Give a Smile
Give a Hand
Give your undivided attention
Give Joy
What a lovely post! I quite agree that giving should be done often, but it shouldn’t necessarily be giving of things that have a material value…
I agree, Kate!
I love this! We really try to teach our little boy about how much fun it is to give
That is awesome, Neely!
Oh I just love this. My boss was really sweet to us and gave everyone gifts, so I just had to go out and do the same for her. She actually cried, it was kind of awesome.
It was nice of you, Krysten, to show your appreciation to your boss.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the giving of “stuff” at this time of the year. That’s why my husband and I are committing to only working on our computers after the boys go to bed during the winter break while they are home.
It is so true, Stephanie! Hope your boys have a wonderful winter break!
I really do have the JOY OF GIVING! I LOVE buying people – but really my husband – presents!! The happiness it brings them/him is EVERYTHING to me!
I can imagine, Gigi!
SUch a good reminder of the reason for the season. I’m trying so hard to instill these ideas into my kids and it isn’t always the easiest!
It’s not easy, Nicole, but they will eventually get it.
My favorite part of the holiday season is giving gifts. I love seeing their faces when they open their gifts!
I agree, Amanda, it feels good to see the joy in the eyes of our loved ones
I agree. I love giving to others and I’ve always said that when I come into more, I give more. The holidays bring out the best in so many people and my prayer is that we not forget to give to those in need.
I agree, Elizabeth, that’s why I like to volunteer my time during the holiday season!
I love all the positive quotes for the holiday!!! This is definitely something for us all to remember.
Thank you, Nikki!
Giving without a motive and without going into debt is the best way to give. Gifts of love always last much longer.
Absolutely, Charlotte!
Giving is so important and doing so without debt or without expecting something in return is something I hold a lot of pride in. This year we aren’t exchanging gifts but we are physically seeing each other and that’s the best part.
That’s awesome, Angela!
such great reminders! i really want to become more aware and give more often, and give what really matters!
That’s great, Ananda, hope you enjoy, this beautiful season!
I love this so much. It is so important to give to others every day of the year.
Agree!
I have only recently discover that giving made me so much more happy that anything else, so I practice it very often.
That’s is awesome, Nati, I feel the same way.
Such beautiful sentiments, Marjie. This is so true, all of it. We often DON’T spend a ton of money on holiday gifts, but the being together and giving of our time and love to each other is what takes precedence.
Absolutely, Flossie, may you have a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones.
These are great. I’d like to add a financial one from Dave Ramsey. If you live like no one else, then later you can live and GIVE like no one else.
Very empowering, thank you for sharing that quote.
