As I navigate this new chapter as a single woman, I’m learning to redefine what life looks and feels like. It’s not always easy. Some days come with confusion, challenges, and unexpected emotional headaches. But one thing I’ve come to believe deeply is that my circumstances do not define me. They may shake me up, shape me, but they will never stop me. So I keep moving, slowly, sometimes, but always forward. Along the way, I’m choosing to find joy in the little things.
The month of May reminded me that even during life transitions, there is still so much worth celebrating.

I started the month with Nurses’ Week, which is close to my heart. Nursing isn’t just my profession, it’s part of my life’s purpose. Caring for others and empowering them to live healthier, more fulfilling lives is what drives me. So I took a moment to celebrate myself and all the other amazing nurses doing this important work.
Later in the month, I got to celebrate two of my dear friends’ birthdays. Never underestimate the power of cake, music, and a good laugh. These simple things can light up a whole day and lift your spirit in ways you didn’t expect.

Mother’s Day was especially meaningful as my greatest joy and lifelong accomplishment will always be being the mother of my two incredible young women. That day was a full-circle moment, celebrating my mom while being celebrated by my daughters. Those are the kind of blessings I hold close to my heart.

On May 18, I proudly celebrated Haitian Flag Day. My Haitian heritage is a core part of who I am. I carry the strength, pride, and resilience of my ancestors every single day. Being Haitian means I walk with history in my bones and hope in my heart.
Amid all these sweet moments, I’ve also discovered a new hobby that brings me joy, salsa dancing. It’s become a source of fun, energy, and healing. Even when life feels uncertain, a good song and a little movement can bring so much light.
If you’re going through a separation or personal transition, I want you to know something I’ve learned: there is life on the other side. It may look different, but it can still be beautiful. Permit yourself to start fresh. Celebrate the little things. Be present for the joyful moments, even if they come in small doses. And always remember, your story isn’t over.
With love, Marjie
