A Day With My Daughter: Making Memories in the Little Moments

Of all the things I have accomplished and all the titles I have held in my life, being a mother is, and always will be, my greatest blessing.  Although my children are grown, my heart still skips a beat whenever I hear them call me “Mom.” It has been one of my favorite sounds for the past 30 years. Now, as an empty nester, I find so much joy in watching my daughters blossom into responsible, independent, and successful women.

Whenever I spend time with them, my world feels a little brighter. Despite our busy schedules and the demands of our individual lives, we make an effort to talk every day and see each other at least once a week. I don’t take those moments for granted.

Last Sunday, my younger daughter and I spent the day together, and it turned into one of those simple, beautiful days filled with adventure, laughter, good food, and memories.

We are both foodies, so naturally, food had to be our first stop. We headed to JoTorro for tacos and guacamole. Good food and good conversation, what more could a mother ask for?

After lunch, we took the trolley and wandered around Ybor City, enjoying the afternoon and simply being together. Along the way, we realized we could stop at Drip and pick up our clay projects.  I had started this project with both of my daughters, but finding a time when all three of us can get together while the studio is open has been challenging. So, picking up our projects became another little moment to add to our day.

From there, we wandered through Sparkman Wharf, talking, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company. There was no big occasion, no elaborate plans, just a mother and daughter spending time together.

And, of course, how can you have a perfect day without ice cream?  We stopped at Hampton Ice Cream and treated ourselves to something sweet before heading home.

For me, the joy is in moments like these, the simple moments that fill your heart with love. The laughter, the conversations, the food, the wandering, and even the ice cream become memories that I know I will treasure.

Sometimes, I think about my life now and realize that although I may be alone, I am not lonely. My heart is full of love, joy, and beautiful memories.  This is the part of single life I am learning to embrace: creating a life that is full, meaningful, and joyful, one little moment at a time.

And if that means spending a Sunday eating tacos, riding the trolley, making clay projects, wandering around the city, and ending the day with ice cream with my daughter…

I’ll take it.
