Rising Above Fear

Fear is a reaction; courage is a decision.  Winston Churchill.

I haven’t used my quotes book for a while. I was hiding from my truth until my friend reached out to me the other night and brought me back to reality.  I did not even realize that I stopped doing the things that I love and was slowly letting fear taking over everything.

We all go through fears at some point. Some decide to rise above them, some, like me, try other paths instead of facing them. Knowing that we are not alone, having someone to connect, having someone reaching out to us, can help us face our fears.

I could not agree more with that quote of Seneca: “We are more often frightened than hurt, and we suffer more from imagination than from reality.”

When my friend reached out, I realized that I was not alone, help was always there, I was able to see clearly.  I know that, slowly, I will overcome whatever was holding me as a prisoner.

“One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.”  Henry Ford

I think it’s okay to be scared but we should not let fear stop us. We might need to pause and breathe, but we should always remember that the destination is worth the journey. No matter how scared we are, we must go on.

“Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem to be more afraid of life than death.”  James F. Byrne

“Do the thing you fear, and the death of fear is certain.”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

To overcome fear, here’s all you have to do: realize the fear is there and do the action you fear anyway.” Peter McWilliams

If you are reading my post and the quotes I love, I hope you don’t let any fear hold you back because as Franklin D. Roosevelt beautifully said: The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

“Fear has two meanings: ‘Forget Everything And Run’ or ‘Face Everything and Rise.’ The choice is yours.” Zig Ziglar

I have decided to rise above mine today, will you join me?

  1. we all go through highs and lows in life it’s not necessary what happened but what we decided at that moment to be held by our fears or reclaim our power and rise above them as they say feel the fear but do it anyway once you step outside of it that’s where you get to see there was nothing which held you back for so long thanks for sharing all the quotes

  2. Thank you for your bravery in this post! I love that Winston Churchill quote!

I struggle with my own anxieties and fears. (everyone does in someway) But I’ve managed to breakthrough to new levels of courage.

I think it is important to know that being fearful is a normal experience and a positive indication that we are challenging ourselves beyond the norm.

Whenever we explore new territory or challenge ourselves to do something, it can bring fear. But I’m learning that fear is an indicator as well of inner wisdom.

The important thing is to listen to our fear and try to address what wisdom it is leading us to face.

I find that once I work through the things I am concerned about, I find the wisdom to find solutions or ways to take action to move forward.

All of us have this inner wisdom. I think fear is a catalyst for tapping into our inner strengths.

I liked all the famous quotes you used here. I often turn to historical figures for their wisdom and encouragement!

I especially like Eleanor Roosevelt’s famous quote about being able to face this fear means that in the future you can handle anything else that comes along!

Sorry for the terrible paraphrasing —but in essence, I think this means that we must use fear to develop TRUST in our own ability to handle anything. Experiencing fear shows GROWTH of our potential and expansion into new levels of our LIMITLESS capacity.

I’m learning to look at fear as an incredibly positive barometer of my self development!

Thank you for your courage in posting this and for continually challenging your own fear.

    • I always know that we are connected in this world and we need to lift each other. Your words have empowered me today, thank you so much, Jenny.

  3. This is so relatable. We all go through fears and we’re not alone. It’s important to remember to reach out to people if we feel alone.

  4. Our fears and failures do not define us. We all go through hardships every now and then, and yes, as much as we want to avoid it, we do have to release our emotions and cry. For me, crying is not a sign of weakness and fear. It is only a physiological process that helps the body be stronger to rise up and face life again.

  5. Amen! We have to rise past the fear and unknown. We can’t be better people if we get up and over the negativity and the fear. I wish my coworkers could read this because they are holding back so much due to fear.

  6. Thank you for writing this. I often experience fear due to my anxiety. It’s so hard sometimes, so this is a nice reminder that we are not alone. We all have to face fear sometimes.

  7. Fear is such a fascinating, complex, puzzling and, of course, scary feeling to tackle. These are great quotes to start you thinking about and facing fear. It took me years to finally get the concept of “letting fear pass through” you to overcome it (instead of feeling paralyzed as you try to keep it at bay). And that was inspired by the famous quote about fear from the book “Dune” by Frank Herbert. Good for you to face yours and share these thoughts with us!

  8. Beautiful post and right on point!!! I love and hate fear!!! Hate it because well it is fear and often accompanied with anxiety. I love it because it is a path to do great great things.

  9. We all at some point go through ups and downs. But it’s always good to biuld to biuld our courage since fear can hold us down.

  10. I should dust off my quotes book too and have a look. It’s been a whlie. And the ones you shared here are really great. I like this one a lot. “Do the thing you fear, and the death of fear is certain.” – It’s obviously simple, but deep at the same time.

  11. It’s a brilliant piece of writing. I think it’s better to face fear to grow rather hindering our abilities. Sometimes we need help from others and it’s ok to get help.

  12. I love this!! It is hard at times, but you have to try and push fear to the side and move forward to make the most of life x

  13. These are very nice and motivational quotes. Fear is most of the times a feeling that stops us from going after our dreams. What we understand where this fear comes from, we can move forward.

  14. Ahhhhh we all go through this in life!!! I try not to let fear stop me from doing anything in life, but unfortunately fear does win sometimes

  15. I have read a quote a few years back and it has stuck to my mind since then. I want to share it with you. Here goes..
“FEAR has two meanings. Forget Everything And Run or Face Everything And Rise. The choice is yours.”
