One of my greatest joy for the holidays is having my family and friends over.  This year was particularly special as everyone traveled to Florida to visit me.  The pleasure of eating together, talking, laughing, and dancing made it all priceless.

One of the desserts that I made for this Christmas dinner was a delicious Cran-Apple Crisp which I served with ice-cream.

Cran-Apple Crisp

What you need for the filling

5 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced into 1/4-inch slices

1 tablespoon butter, softened

One can cranberry sauce

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

What you need for the crumb topping

1 cup quick-cooking oats

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

1/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar

1/2 stick butter, melted

1/4 cup chopped pecans

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon of nutmeg

1 teaspoon ginger powder

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Coat a 9-inch pie dish with the softened butter. Set aside.

For the filling: In a large mixing bowl, stir together the cranberry sauce, granulated sugar, and flour. Add the apples to the cranberry mixture, the vanilla extract, tossing to coat, and pour the mixture into the prepared pie dish.

For the crumb topping: In another mixing bowl, stir together the oats, flour, brown sugar, melted butter, pecans, nutmeg, ginger, and cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples in the dish.

Bake until golden brown, 35 to 40 minutes.  Serve warm or room temperature.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas time with your loved ones and remember to let me know what you think about this dessert.  Enjoy the recipe.

  1. I make an apple crisp that’s very similar to this, but I never thought of adding cranberry to it, too. I just don’t usually use pecans since I don’t care for them, and it’s still delicious and crunchy for anyone who doesn’t like them.

  2. I love apple crisp and cranberries.. you blew my mind. I cant believe I never thought to put them together! I put raisins in my crisp every once in awhile, but cranberries/craisins is so brilliant! ive never put nuts in my topping. its usually just oats, sugars, cinnamon and butter. I think im going to have to try this recipe, it looks too good to pass up. #PrintingNow

  3. Oh this one looks so yummy and I am a sucker for ice cream even when the weather isn’t as warm as Florida 🙂 Your dessert is definitely one I will try this year, the whole “serve warm AND ice cream” is simply irresistible! Glad you enjoyed a fab family + friends time and thanks for sharing
